When Red was found with her litter, she was 7-months-old, neglected, and starving. She weighed only about 20 pounds.

Today, three months after she was rescued by Clairton Humane officers, she’s a well-fed, happy, and lively pup. Most importantly, she went from being unwanted to needed.

Officers like Robin Gaydos-Behanna quickly realized that Red wasn’t an ordinary dog. She was special because she had this spark, a drive that stood out. If there was a goal or object to get to, she would find a way to reach it.

They put her through a test and watched her try to retrieve a hidden object.

The shelter put up a video of Red taking the test on Facebook and then reached out to organizations like law enforcement agencies and other rescue groups that might need a pup like Red. The shelter hoped that she would be adopted for a good cause.

One organization responded, thankfully. Now Red is scheduled to travel to Oregon to start training to become a drug or bomb detection dog. She will spend the next seven months learning how to keep us safe!

It’s amazing how Red went from being neglected to needed in a matter of months. Soon she’ll be responsible for saving lives!

Please SHARE if you’re glad Red was able to find love and a purpose after being mistreated for so long!
