When it comes to baking fails, I’ve pretty much come to expect the worst any time I roll up my sleeves to tackle a recipe.

For instance, I was trying to help one of my best friends make a birthday cake from scratch a few months ago, which seemed easy enough. We followed all the steps, but soon found ourselves staring down chocolate that had seized up before we could add it to the rest of the batter.

Luckily, our other friend there had previously run across the same problem and knew the perfect solution. By the time we were done frosting it, you would have never guessed there had ever been anything wrong!

That said, there are still plenty of other problems just waiting to rear their ugly heads any time even the most accomplished bakers attempt to whip something up.

I know I’ve forgotten to grease or flower my cake pans more times than I can count, but I never would have thought to use Christopher’s genius solution with hot water and a cookie sheet.
