For the most part, you just need simple baking ingredients like milk and flour. The only pieces of specialty equipment required are a piping bag, and a brûlée torch, and both are totally optional.

This doughnut recipe takes all the creamy sweetness of classic crème brûlée, a caramelized French custard, and transforms it into a to-die-for filled doughnut.

  • 1 12 cups

    Sugar, divided

  • 4 tsps.

    Baking powder

  • 1 12 tsps.

    Salt

  • 12 tsp.

    Nutmeg

  • 2

    Egg yolks

  • 3 cups

    Milk, divided

  • 14 cup

    Unsalted butter, melted

  • 4 cups

    Flour, divided

  • 1 tsp.

    Vanilla

  • 13 cup

    Cornstarch

  • To taste,

    Additional sugar

Instructions

  • Combine 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk together well.
  • Fold 2 eggs, 1 cup milk, and butter into sugar mixture. Mix well.
  • Add 3 cups of flour to liquid and mix well. Then fold in one additional cup of flour until thick dough forms.
  • Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to cut out circles. Fry dough in hot oil 2-3 minutes, and set aside.
  • Start making the crème filling. Combine 1 1/3 cups of milk and vanilla in a saucepan and set to simmer.
  • Meanwhile combine 1/2 cup of sugar, cornstarch, 2/3 cup of milk, and 2 egg yolks. Whisk together.
  • Start ladling simmering milk into sugar mixture, one scoop at a time. Whisk together, then return all the liquid to the saucepan.
  • Simmer on stovetop until the liquid thickens into crème filling.
  • Poke a hole in each doughnut with a skewer, then pipe in filling with piping bag.
  • Dip each donut in extra sugar, and then use brûlée torch to melt the sugar into a glaze.
  • Serve and enjoy!
