The Cleveland Cavaliers decimated the Boston Celtics in Game 2 on Friday night, and that performance was enough to elicit quite the reaction from the basketball world. However, there was a subplot following the game in the fact that LeBron James was unceremoniously omitted from the list of NBA MVP finalists just moments before tip-off.

Immediately following a game in which James compiled 30 points, seven assists, four rebounds, four steals and three blocks in only 33 minutes of work, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue was informed that he was left out of the top three for the MVP award.

Lue was seemingly amused and befuddled by the fact that James wasn’t included, and he went on to essentially indicate that James would win the MVP every season in his book. Shortly thereafter, the best player in the world was teed up with regard to the omission and claimed that he was not aware of the outcome before tip-off.

While his answer was extremely typical of past statements, James’ answer did include a gem. “I know what I bring to the table,” he said. “This league knows what I bring to the table.”

His understated reaction was not unexpected, especially given the fact that it wasn’t necessary to boast after what became a 46-point victory. Still, the major takeaway of the evening was that everyone who took in the festivities knew that they had watched the best player in the NBA play, and not even the league’s MVP award finalists could mask that notion.
