Drop Peppermints Into Cookie Cutters To Create Adorable Christmas Ornaments

There’s nothing like the holiday season when it comes to crafting. It’s also the perfect excuse to break out your pots, pans, and baking supplies. Because something homemade always makes a great gift!

And extra great? If what you create is pretty and smells nice!

These peppermint candy ornaments combine the two perfectly. The bright red and snowy white fit perfectly with the season’s cheer, and the refreshing minty scent mixes great with the smell of pine.

They also look great as an add-on to a present, and they’re a lot easier to make than a candy bowl.

Making them is super easy, and of course you can also experiment with other mint colors and differently shaped cookie cutters for a different look.

Materials:

  • Peppermint candies
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Strong scissors
  • Cookie cutters
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or foil
  • Ribbon or string

Instructions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or tin foil.
  2. Spray cookie cutters with nonstick spray and line up on the lined sheet. We used stars, but feel free to experiment!
  3. Unwrap peppermint candies and fill the bottom of the cookie cutters with them.
  4. For narrow areas like star points, cut the peppermints in half using strong (and clean) scissors. Try to keep the striped design intact.
  5. Fill in the cookie cutters as closely as possible.
  6. Bake at 350 °F for 3 to 9 minutes. Check regularly.
  7. When the mints are fully melted and are beginning to run out under the cutters, remove from oven.
  8. While the candy is still soft, poke a hole in one point with a chopstick. You’ll use this to hang the ornament.
  9. Let cool completely, then tie a ribbon through the hole and hang from a tree or on a present!
