Some people in this world are not meant to own dogs — these are the people who abuse and neglect their dogs, who just want to be loved and cared for.

Unfortunately, disabled dogs are disproportionately treated poorly.

Often, these are the dogs who are thrown out on the street. If they’re taken in by a shelter, these dogs are usually not adopted, which means they often get euthanized.

That’s where Susan Fulcher and Audrey McCabe come in. The two women know that disabled dogs deserve just as much love as every other dog — and they want to help these pups find their purpose in life.

Audrey and Susan, who founded Dharma Rescue, take in disabled dogs, get them set up with wheelchairs — like this dog, Max — and help them transform.

Once the dogs know they’re in a safe environment, Audrey and Susan start to train them to become therapy dogs.

They’ve found that these dogs can have a huge impact on children with behavioral problems, learning disabilities, and autism.

As we’ve seen before, at this little boy’s pug birthday party, kids with autism can benefit greatly by being exposed to dogs — they often help them come out of their shell and make them feel comfortable.
